FlexTech Packaging receives many customer requests for new products. We also receive requests to re-design and improve older specifications to meet today’s needs of better product performance.
FlexTech Packaging was asked to solve a problem with a film that was not meeting distribution needs in different environments world wide. The film needed structure changes but also the ability for FlexTech Packaging to slit seal to a finished product for shipment to their site.
The structure was rich with EVOH for odor barrier, fractional mil, and needed to easily slide in and out of a cassette. Part of the design change by FlexTech Packaging was the ability to withstand hot environments while not sticking to itself and not tearing during product use. Other added features allowed easy machineability, strength and overall performance for high speed slit seal.
The challenge was then to manufacture fractional gauge in wide width tubing taking advantage of BUR and blown film characteristics. The wide tubing then needed to be slit into a rather narrow tube for insertion into a cassette.
The answer was to design a slit seal production center able to slit and seal at high speed with a completely air tight seal. The product is a high odor barrier film that needs to contain odor. FlexTech Packaging got to work and installed a slit seal slitter that runs multi-lanes at high speed and produces, in the customer’s words, “excellent” quality.
The project developed over a 3 to 4 month period. Ramp up production began soon after development. The product is now several years old and a solid part of FlexTech Packaging capabilities today.
